The "family glitch" is a term that refers to an issue in the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The problem arises when the ACA's definition of "affordable coverage" is based on the cost of individual insurance, rather than family coverage.
The "family glitch" was caused by the IRS's interpretation of the firewall provision in 2013. This interpretation states that if an employer offers affordable employee-only coverage, the employee and their family members are not eligible for premium tax credits, even if the employer offers affordable family coverage.
On December 12, 2022, the federal government finalized a rule that fixes the "family glitch." From 2024, for a job-based health plan, employee-only coverage must cost 8.39% or less of the employee's household income to be considered affordable.

With the introduction of government-mandated coverage requirements in 2012, we seized the opportunity to broaden our services. We began assisting large employers in implementing top-tier Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) plans. These plans not only ensured compliance with legal obligations but also empowered employers to retain and attract invaluable hourly workers.
